A contribution to the San Diego Canyons Campaign is an investment in effective, long-term volunteer stewardship of our unique canyon and creek habitats and the overall health of our eco-system. It’s an investment in our future environmental ambassadors as the campaign increasingly provides access, environmental education, and hands-on learning opportunities to San Diego’s youth, -utilizing the canyons as local nature classrooms.
The San Diego Canyons Campaign has successfully organized 41 stewardship or “Friends Groups” for Canyons and Creeks throughout the county. In 2006 we generated approximately 4,000 hours of volunteer service in canyon-creek open spaces, generated over 500 new volunteers, and enrolled 650 youth in our educational and stewardship programs.
San Diegans are eager to give something back to the world they live in and with hundreds of canyons scattered throughout the city and county, participants are provided with a very local way to help wildlife and endangered species, restore wetlands to help filter polluted urban runoff, and educate their kids and neighbors about the importance of environmental stewardship.
